The only teacher I ever had that came close to the "after-school-special-care-so-much-it-changes-your-life" mentor, was a college psych professor.

He said he wanted his life to be like a great epic myth. Great stories are not always sunshine and smiles. There is conflict and pain in them, too. Great characters experience triumph *and* despair. "I'd like my story to be one worth reading" he said.

That idea often helps me through the tough times.
